PostSubject: my new Marathon setup   Fri Oct 09, 2009 5:02 pm

OK man, its NOT all Marathon, but the guts of this system is. A pair of DJ-153 speakers, a new pair of ENT-15
and a new MA-4050 amp. I purchased them at International DJ on 6th and Broadway, downtown Los Angeles---ask for
Domingo. But you can find them at Six Star Dj online or your local shop or check Google and buy them online anywhere
in the world. You can't beat Marathon's prices for the quality.

The MA4050 is such a bad ass amp. I can tell you that this amp has more power than
most will need. 800wpc at 8 ohms & it cranks out enough power to spare when I run all 4 speakers... I'm not a fan
of the digital amps, those lightweight ones. They suck because although they have plenty of power for
bar and wedding dj's, they don't have the analog BOOM that old school dj's and the dance floor needs.
This one's heavy, weighs in about 50lbs--get a rolling rack. Dual fans, bunch of switches in the rear, limiter, the works.
I highly recommend this amp, even if you don't like Marathon speakers or whatever, you have to buy this amp.
Its really inexpensive as well---a great value.

The ENT 15's are bad ass Marathon's higher end ABS speakers. When I took them out of the box, I knew these werent cheap ABS speakers. No sir, they weigh about 42 lbs each. There's components inside that means business. They have the titanium horn tweeters. Speakon connectors. Its so damn crystal clear and non-fatiguing to the ears you wonder why they are just dj speakers and not studio monitors. I mean, the sound is amazing. Not like crappy piezo tweeters that sound cheap, but pure high end sound. I played/blasted the latest easy listening Natalie Cole cd and it was like sitting at the Greek Theatre in Hollywood listening to a multi-million dollar system. The woofers provide lots of low-end as well. If you compare these side by side with JBL, you couldn't even tell. In fact the ENT-15's may sound better. Too bad they don't sell covers for the speakers, I see them getting scratched up after a few gigs. However, I can tell you these speakers sound great and are 50% less than comparable JBL's.

Finally I bought the Marathon DJ-153 speakers. Black carpeted, plywood constructed and very sturdy. It has a lot of low end for a single 15" enclosure. The highs and mids aren't great at all but its Marathon's DJ Series and people on the dance floor really don't care as long as there's the boom. The 4 top horns put out as much sound as 4 angry chihuahuas
to a jack hammer and the big horn has enough sound so you can hear the song. Not that great as a stand along pair, but
for the economy-minded dj or band, its satisfactory. The DJ153 is like a linebacker, not the sharpest tool in the shed but will get the job done.
